And while dynasts can rule the roost in politics and Bollywood, cricket is a meritocratic space. But it wasn't always this way. Gandhi, for instance, intensely disapproved of cricket. Democracy xi rajdeep pdf download the Raj it democracy xi rajdeep pdf download associated with racism. It had the nasty odour of communal division, with Hindus and Muslims playing in separate teams. Dalits, meanwhile, were personas non grata on the field.

Neither a complete sports book nor a complete political democracy xi rajdeep pdf download. Verified Purchase. I bought this book out of sheer interest on cricket. No cricket book has ever disappointed me like this Rajdeep keeps on polluting the spirit of sport by thrusting his political views in between every event. This approach seems to be a concealed attempt to market his favourite political party in the masquerade of Cricket. Rajdeep starts off an event in the Indian cricket history, but does not care to conclude it.

A genuine cricket enthusiast who craves for complete cricket stories is continuously disappointed and frustrated because of the undue interference of irrelevant political parallels in the middle of the cricket stories that are not concluded too.

Conclusion: This is neither a complete sports book nor a complete political diary. There are parts of the book which are good. It is an interesting list of cricketers and some of the anecdotes are interesting. But the author brings in Political events and religious interludes into the narration. This was completely unnecessary and leaves a bad taste in democracy xi rajdeep pdf download chapters, democracy xi rajdeep pdf download.

It is a cricket book - it should have been kept that way, democracy xi rajdeep pdf download. Laxman's is written as It's one of the few indian cricket books, democracy xi rajdeep pdf download. It's a great read because of the chapters on each cricketers. One can pick and choose but a real cricket fan will read the whole book. I loved the chapters on Pataudi, Gavaskar, kapil, azhar and Sardesai as I was unaware of their stories.

One person found this helpful. The chapter on Dilip Sardesai was easily the best. On Pataki, Rajdeep writes sheer poetry. I also thought Bedi came across as such a hero. Azhar and Gavaskar of course were sheer nostalgia.

A great addition to the sparse literature on India's beloved sport. Badly written. We all know how terrible Sardesai can actually be Genuine efforts by the author. A wasted opportunity. Someone who has access to all the cricketers mentioned in the book should have come up with something better. Utterly disappointed. Brings back old memories. Deja vu.

V well compiled. Good research. Grt effort. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. It is the first book I have read about cricket for many years. The book comprises 11 chapters following a long introduction, is pages long with a handful of pictures of which some are in colour and cost £ Quite a lot when these days when e-books cost pennies. Back to this later.

I was intrigued by the title "Democracy's XI".
